HE Prak Sokhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Cambodia, provides information on the results of the second working visit to Myanmar.
Phnom Penh : HE Prak Sokhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Cambodia : “This afternoon, I briefed the Ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, the media, and representatives from relevant local institutions on the outcomes of my second working visit to Myanmar in the capacity of the ASEAN Chair’s Special Envoy.
Summarising and analysing this visit in less than an hour was not an easy task. But just to recap:
– The parties we met during this trip were more diverse compared to the last, although not all planned meetings were materialised;
– I continued to emphasise Cambodia’s experience and lesson learnt in ending war and conflict in the absence of violence. While some forms of violence persist in certain areas, there is an encouraging sign of growing stability;
– Humanitarian assistance has shown promising progress given that it is not overly-politicised and many actors have been willingly supportive;
– The Myanmar crisis remains deep-rooted, and there is no easy fix, which would require time, patience, and compromise from all parties concerned;
– This visit may not have achieved substantial progress according to some, but my team and I sincerely believe that we have accomplished some progress.”
