Courtesy Call Meeting between Japan International Cooperation Agency and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport

On September 22, 2023, mission team for formulating new technical cooperation project from JICA HQ paid the Courtesy Call to H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport. Mr. Shimpei TAGUCHI, officer in charge of development of basic education in Cambodia, presented the concept of new technical cooperation project to His Excellency and colleagues. JICA supported to establish the Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC) and the Battambang Teacher Education College (BTEC) as first four-year colleges for primary and lower secondary teachers through the grant aid and technical cooperation project. First batch of student teachers (around 480 teachers) successfully graduated in 2022 and started to provide quality teaching on the ground. JICA plans to keep contributing to strengthening PTEC and BTEC further through new technical cooperation project “The Project for Strengthening Teacher Education Colleges for Basic Education Quality (S-TEC)” which will start in 2024.
