Thousands Gather in Siem Reap for Grand Giant Puppet Parade
Thousands of local and international visitors joined residents of Siem Reap province for a spectacular giant puppet parade in the heart of the city on the night of Feb. 22.
The event featured nine types of massive puppets, each inspired by Cambodian mythology and traditional art styles.
These included Tep Machcha (Divine Mermaid); Garuda; Hanuman (Banteay Srei style); Naga (Bayon style); Lion (Sambor Prei Kuk style); Ganesha; Neang Kennorey (Celestial Dancer); Makara; and Asura (Bayon style).
The vibrant parade, a fusion of culture and artistry, drew spectators from all walks of life, highlighting Siem Reap’s rich heritage and its appeal as a cultural tourism hub. By K. Rithy Reak AKP Siem Reap, February 23, 2025
